Spring Commissioning Checklist: 15 Steps to Get Lake-Ready

After months in storage, your jet ski or boat needs proper commissioning before hitting the water. Skip steps and you risk breakdowns, overheating, or worse. Here's the exact 15-point checklist we use:

  • ✅ Remove fogging oil — crank the engine to clear cylinders
  • ✅ Change engine oil and filter
  • ✅ Replace spark plugs
  • ✅ Check compression on all cylinders
  • ✅ Inspect and replace fuel filter
  • Fuel System

  • ✅ Drain old fuel if not stabilized
  • ✅ Inspect fuel lines for cracks or swelling
  • ✅ Add fresh fuel with ethanol treatment
  • Cooling & Electrical

  • ✅ Flush cooling system and check for blockages
  • ✅ Inspect impeller and wear ring
  • ✅ Reconnect battery and load test
  • ✅ Test all electrical — gauges, lights, bilge pump
  • Hull & Drive

  • ✅ Inspect hull for cracks, blisters, or damage
  • ✅ Check jet pump / lower unit gear oil
  • ✅ Test ride — check throttle response, steering, and handling
